Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
